Macra Director General Challenges Creative Industry to Take Ownership

Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra) Director General Daud Suleman has urged players in the creative industry to move beyond relying on Big Tech for monetization. Instead, he encourages them to take ownership of digital distribution, platforms, and innovation.

Suleman emphasized that having a large social media following doesn't necessarily translate to financial gains. He stressed that creative industry players need to develop strategies to turn their online presence into tangible income.

To achieve this, Suleman recommends investing in local streaming platforms, payment systems, content hubs, and telco partnerships. This, he believes, will bolster Malawi's digital creative ecosystem and enable the industry to thrive.

Presidential Advisor on Arts and Culture Q Malewezi echoed Suleman's sentiments, calling for increased interaction among stakeholders to ensure Malawi reaps the benefits of its creative industry. By working together, Malawi can unlock the full potential of its creative sector and drive economic growth.
