Malawi's Female Visual Artists Take Center Stage

The Kaliso Art Gallery in Lilongwe is hosting the second edition of the Female Visual Artists Art Exhibition, dubbed Chiphadzuwa, from March 9 to 30, 2025. The exhibition coincides with International Women's Day, promoting women's equality and raising awareness about discrimination.

Led by Kaliso Arts Gallery founder Evelyn Chisambiro, the exhibition features works by nine female visual artists. The exhibition, titled Chiphadzuwa, meaning "Beauty" in Chichewa, aims to showcase the artists' definition of beauty through their artworks. "Beauty is not only about appearance, but it's a lot of things," Chisambiro explained.

The exhibition is part of efforts to promote and support female visual artists in Malawi. Participating artists include Tee Mlinga, Vanessa Maganga, Louisa Kanchewa, Amabel Banda, Mable Tikhale Wasi, Faith Mzoma, Alinafe Chapungu, and Cindy Chilimampunga.

In a related development, celebrated fashion designer Lilly Alfonso is representing Malawi at the Creative Economy Week in Zimbabwe, organized by the British Council. The event aims to empower fashion designers and entrepreneurs to succeed, featuring insights into the latest fashion trends and industry developments.
