Unity and Peace through Poetry

As the world celebrates World Poetry Day, the President of the Poetry Association of Malawi, Robert Chiwamba, has urged poets to take an active role in spreading messages of unity and peace through their craft. With the country approaching elections in September, Chiwamba emphasized the power of poetry to promote positive change.

"Poems have the power to inspire, to educate, and to unite," Chiwamba said. "As poets, we have a responsibility to use our words to promote unity and peace, especially during this critical period in our country's history." The Poetry Association of Malawi has chosen "Unity and Peace" as its theme for the year, and Chiwamba encouraged poets to use their work to spread this message.

In addition to promoting unity and peace, the Poetry Association of Malawi is also committed to promoting poetic excellence. On World Poetry Day, the organization held a ceremony that featured a poem by Benedicto Wokomaatani Malunga, which showcased the use of poetic devices in poetry. The organization also announced its procedures for receiving funds from the Copyright Fund.

As Malawi approaches elections, the Poetry Association of Malawi is calling on poets to use their words to promote unity and peace. By doing so, poets can play a critical role in shaping the country's future and promoting a culture of peace and understanding. As Chiwamba emphasized, "We poets have a responsibility to use our words to make a positive impact on our country. Let us use our poetry to promote unity and peace, and to inspire a brighter future for all Malawians.
